Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens Teaser Trailer

This past Thursday brought more than just Thanksgiving; it also gave us a teaser trailer for the newest Star Wars movie.

NOTE: Spoilers are contained in this article. If you want to watch the movie entirely unspoiled, avoid this article entirely.

Titled Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, this will be the first Star Wars movie in 10 years. (The movie is scheduled to release in December 2015, 10 years after Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith came out.) In the timeline of the actual storyline, the story takes place 30 years after Episode VI.

But of course, you came to see the trailer. So here it is.

Before this teaser trailer, I knew basically nothing about Episode VII's casting. So here's a basic rundown.

  • The guy in the storm trooper outfit is John Boyega, an actor from England.
  • The girl in the rebel outfit is Daisey Ridley, also from England.
  • The guy in the X-wing is Oscar Isaac, a Guatemalan-born actor from America.
  • The Wikipedia page says that the film focuses around three main leads, so I'm guessing the above actors play those characters.
  • The cast includes Lupita Nyong'o, Warwick Davis, and Billie Lourd (Carrie Fisher's daughter).
  • Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford are reprising their roles as Luke, Leia, and Han Solo respectively. The actors playing Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew), C-3PO (Anthony Daniels), and R2-D2 (Kenny Baker), will also be back.
  • This movie also has Andy Serkis in it. Who is apparently trying to get into all the fandoms.

  • This movie is directed by J.J. Abrams, who is also in all the fandoms. Previous credits include Lost and the Star Trek reboot films, just to name a few. Lens flares will abound.

Overall, Episode VII looks promising. When watching the trailer, I'm reminded a lot more of the original films than the prequels, which is always good. It seems, hopefully, that we are returning to the heart of Star Wars.

I'm thrilled at the amount of diversity we see in the casting. And there are so many females! Including one in the lead! As someone who noticed the lack of a lot of female characters when I was a young girl, this makes my little fangirl heart sing. (Don't let me down, J.J.) Finally, girls of all ages will have even more Star Wars ladies to look up to. I'm thrilled. (I already said that, didn't I?)

One of my favorite parts of the trailer is seeing the Millenium Falcon. That's really, really cool. Personally, I hope we see our three leads in a bunch of space adventures with lots of witty banter.

In conclusion, I can't wait to see how this film turns out. I am hopefully optimistic.

My far-fetched fan theories
  • John Boyega plays Lando's son.
  • Oscar Isaac is Luke's son
  • Daisy Ridley is the daughter of Han & Leia
  • We will not see any Jar-Jar Binks (due to the timeline, this one's probably true)
  • Or Anakin (due to the timeline, this is also probably true)
  • The movie will find ways to pay homage to Darth Vader, the Death Star, Obi-Wan, and other Star Wars favorites
  • We will clearly see even more advancements in technology, as evidenced by the new swords the Sith have acquired.
  • Evil will abound. Obviously.
  • The force is awakening, perhaps after a long respite.
  • At least one of our main leads will be a Jedi. (I hope.)
  • Jabba the Hutt will return to haunt us once again. (I hope not.)
What do you think of the trailer? What are your theories on what's going on?
Any juicy spoilers I missed? Let me know in the comments!
