Jane the Virgin: 2x06 "Chapter Twenty-Eight" Recap

In light of last week, I think this was a great follow up episode.
source
We start with a flashback of Jane as a baby with Xiomara, and then as a girl entering junior high, and then up to the present, the narrator talking all the while about how time goes by fast. In the present, Jane doesn't think the cut on Mateo's arm will scar. She's still very happy about Mateo's first smile and documents it in her scrapbook.

Meanwhile, Michael is on a road trip with Nadine. Apparently, he called her, and the gun was just for precaution. Go figure. Nadine is deciding whether or not to trust him. At the same time, Jane is getting ready to go to orientation for her writing class, but beforehand she has to stop by for a meeting with Rafael and his lawyer. The lawyer wants to get a plan ready for Mateo's life, i.e. what happens when one parent dies, how much money will Mateo inherit, that kind of thing. Jane is a bit hesitant about the fact that Mateo will be earning forty-million in inheritance from Rafael.

Afterwards, the Villanueva crew goes to visit Rogelio on the set of his show because they are filming the finale. While they watch, Petra is at the hotel trying to barter away the grenades Milos brought in. When it fails, Milos says it will take a long time to find another buyer. Distressed, Petra goes to visit her mother in prison, who still wants to leave.

At The Passions of Santos, Rogelio thanks his entire crew and wants to bring them all with him to his next show. Unfortunately, Luciana already has dibs on them, upsetting Rogelio. Jane can't stay for the theatrics though; she must be on her way to her writing class. But then Mateo throws up on her. She can't stay in her dress, so she borrows another one from the set. She's, of course, late to the class. Her professor asks her why she's here in grad school, and she responds that she wants to finish her novel. Everyone laughs, and the professor says he's not here for that, he's there to help her grow. But then Jane's phone interrupts the class; it's Mateo's pediatrician. She risks going outside, only to be locked out of class.

We jump forward a month (a pattern in this episode, I guess, to catch us up in real time). Jane gets her first C-. Being Jane, she goes to her professor. He says it's more of a first draft story, and Jane leaves, disappointed. She meets Rafael at baby class, performing some intense hand choreography along with "The Big Brown Bear" song. It's rather cute watching Rafael with the baby. But Jane doesn't know any of of the choreography. When Rafael seems like he's doing a better job with Mateo, Jane is a bit hurt.

We go to the hotel, where Rafael still wants to have Mateo inherit a lot from him, but Jane is still hesitant. She doesn't want Mateo growing up spoiled. This time, Rafael leaves hurt. This lets Petra sneak in and ask Jane if she'd be willing to support her mother leaving jail. She touches some nerves with the pregnancy deal. Meanwhile, Rogelio wants to create a telenovela version of Mad Men.

At Mateo's doctor, we learn he has plagiocephaly, or flat head, and needs to wear a helmet to correct it. The cause could be from spending too much time laying flat on his back, which makes Jane think of all the times she's let Mateo lay on his back while she was writing. It wracks her with guilt, but she can't concentrate on that forever because Rafael must leave for another doctor's appointment, Petra's to be exact. We soon discover Petra is having girls. Yes, plural. Twin girls.

We jump another month to a rather intense scene of Jane running through the forest. We soon discover it's only because Jane is on a writer's retreat and is trying to get service to call Rafael about the doctor's appointment Mateo is missing. She misses the call and only gets texts, which puts her in a bad mood. She glumly moves to her cabin, where she finds Michael's giraffe statue still in her sleeping bag from the last time she went camping.

We go to another scene of Magda leaving jail with Petra (who is definitely showing now). Petra has apparently been seeing a therapist and really wishes her mother would try to be more positive. Back at the writer's retreat, Jane tries to talk with her fellow writers, but they don't want to share their stories because they don't really know Jane. Jane concedes and decides to tell them everything she hasn't been telling them about. Basically everything. She then makes her first friend, Wesley. She feels better after talking to people so she goes to write, reinvigorated. But then her boobs start hurting, and she goes on pumping duty, only to discover the plug is missing.
source
Meanwhile, Rogelio is failing with his Mad Men telenovela, and the sponsors of the show pull the plug. Speaking of plugs, Rafael goes to Jane's retreat to give her the pumping plug, and Jane gets to see Mateo with the helmet. Rafael and Jane talk for a little bit about the inheritance issue, then Rafael makes another move. Jane says she still isn't over Michael, and Rafael realizes he has to move on (Don't leave, Rafael!). Jane decides to feed Mateo, but he won't breastfeed and takes the bottle instead. Jane realizes he's weaned off of her.

Another month passes, and Mateo still isn't nursing. Fortunately, Jane gets to go back to her mommy class. But while she's there, a fellow mommy asks her if it's weird if she dates Rafael. She says it isn't but then confesses to her writer friend Wesley that it is weird. Wesley consoles her and says it's perfectly normal for her to feel weird. Petra's marriage with Milos is also weird, seeing as how the grenades still haven't been sold. Milos decides to go to Prague to find a buyer for the grenades and leaves Ivan with them to make sure Petra and Magda don't get rid of them. Back to Rafael and Jane, Rafael confesses to Jane that Charlie's mom asked Rafael out, and Jane confesses that Charlie's mom asked her if it was okay. Rafael then decides to go out with Charlie's mom. Cue me:

With Jane being stressed out about the pumping and writing, she eventually falls asleep in writing class. This is a huge insult to the professor, and he then puts her on academic probation. Jane decides to put her butt in gear. Another month passes, where she stresses herself out pumping and writing, and eventually she falls ill. When Mateo cries because he needs his lovey, Jane remember it's at Rafael's place. For the past month, Rafael has been dating Charlie's mom (We aren't even given a real name, so of course she's not sticking around). When he comes to drop the lovey off, he finds Jane sick with fever and her boob is clogged. She yells at him to, "Shut up, and go away."
source
We cut to Ivan having to leave because apparently Milos has been arrested because of his internet scams. All part of Petra and Magda's plans. Meanwhile, Jane has gotten better by the evening, when Rafael comes back. Rafael tells her she should probably stop pumping because it really is hurting her health, and she agrees. At the same time, Petra and Magda have thrown the grenades in the ocean. Magda, however, misses one, and it blows up in her face. One month later, Magda has lost an eye and a hand, so now she's a pirate.

Jane runs into Petra in the hallway, and they trade mommy advice. Afterwards, Jane and Rafael have finally decided on a plan with the lawyer. For Mateo's trust fund, with every dollar that he gets he has to give one to a charity. It's a good plan, and it took months to figure out. Back at the house, Rogelio has finally gotten his telenovela sponsored by people who believe it is a comedy. Either way, it doesn't matter because Rogelio is back in business.
source
Mateo also gets his helmet taken off the same day Jane stops pumping, and Jane throws away Michael's giraffe statue. With all the time jumps, we are now having a Thanksgiving dinner. Petra stops by to give back a lovey Jane left at the hotel, and then Jane invites her in. Honestly, this episode really got me liking Petra. I've slowly come to accept her and her babies, and I hope she doesn't mess it up. Plus, her and Jane could make some real great friends.
source
After dinner, Rogelio gets a call from his agent saying the creator of Mad Men has contacted them, negatively, I assume. Jane then tells Rafael about Charlie's mom acting weird around her, and Rafael confesses that he ended it with her because he still had feelings for Jane. After all these months, he asks her to go on a date with him. And she says yes. Cue me:

But then, Michael appears.
source
Not at the house, thank goodness. He just reappears to Susanna, saying they need to talk. We go back to Jane on the phone with Wesley, sad that he couldn't come. But then we see him talking to Scott and discover he's gathering information about the Solanos, which is the primary reason he's been talking to Jane. Why does he need the information? I don't know, but it can't be good. And with Jane as a source, I have a feeling this is going to come back and bite my Rafael and Jane ship in the butt.
source
Back at Petra and Magda's place, we find that Ivan has returned, and he reveals Milos knows they set him up. Ivan threatens to blackmail Magda, but just before Petra walks in, Magda kills him.
source
A pretty decent episode, but of course, there must be a cliffhanger. What did you guys think of this week's episode? Come back next week for another recap!
